12TH GENERAL ELECTION: 200,000 EC officials to be involved

ELECTION Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman today said that about 200,000-strong staff from the EC would be involved in the 12th general election, which is expected to cost about RM200 million, the highest ever in the history of the general elections.

He was quoted by Bernama as saying: “The budget gets higher because of the rising costs and increased number of voting centers. In the last general election, the budget was RM115 million.”

He added that Sarawak would contribute to the highest spending this time, an estimated RM30 million, due to the need to engage helicopters to travel to various places.
